The Stadtheim Wiener Neustadt is a modern, completely barrier-free nursing home that sets new standards in care for the elderly. On behalf of the House of Mercy and in cooperation with the state of Lower Austria, a place of encounter was created that brings generations together: In addition to the care facilities, the site is home to four state kindergarten groups, a publicly accessible café and assisted living.
This innovative concept promotes interaction between young and old and strengthens social interaction. The planning and design were created by Querkraft Architekten ZT GmbH. The new building was constructed while the existing nursing home continued to operate. It was implemented in four construction phases, during which the residents were successively relocated, and the old parts of the building were demolished. The load-bearing structure consists of a reinforced concrete skeleton construction, with core walls, ceilings and columns made of reinforced concrete
A particular challenge in the planning and execution of the construction phases was the high groundwater level. Space heating and domestic hot water were provided by a combination of a gas boiler system and a solar thermal system. The hygiene requirements were met by the use of modern sanitary and ventilation technology, including central ventilation systems with heat recovery and special pipework. The roof was designed as an extensively greened flat roof with plastic waterproofing.
Our team supported the project in the areas of structural design, building physics, building services engineering and fire protection planning. Stadtheim Wiener Neustadt combines state-of-the-art care facilities with an innovative concept that focuses on quality of life and sustainability.
