Nothing was left to chance in the construction of the light sculpture:
The 3D scan of the church towers – and additional measurements by Bogensberger Vermessung ZT GmbH – defined the exact position of the aluminum construction, cantilever beams, scaffolding tower, and support grid. Inside the towers, steel brackets were anchored in the stone columns, supporting the load-distributing girder grid, on which a torsion-resistant scaffolding tower around 8 m high was erected.
Installation overview:
• Two intersecting cantilever beams were guided through the stone rosettes and fixed at predefined support points
• The rolled aluminum tube was preassembled on the forecourt
• The X-shaped center piece (approx. 22 m) was lifted to a height of around 90 m by a mobile crane, swung into position, and—with the help of industrial climbers—placed on the four arms with millimeter precision.
• The four arched end pieces were then lifted, attached to the sides, and screwed into place.
• Finally, the LED mesh was connected to the light sculpture
With every screw connection and every controlled crane lift, the anticipation for the opening grew: With “Infinity of Light,” Billi Thanner wants to, as she herself says, “make art visible to everyone who wants to see it.”
