The French Embassy in Vienna’s 4th district, built in 1904, will undergo a fundamental functional renovation in 2022. Originally planned by the respected, successful French architect and “Grand Prix de Rome” winner Georges-Paul Chedanne on behalf of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the embassy building is strictly in the style of “Art Nouveau”. This makes the French Embassy at Technikerstraße 2 the only existing diplomatic mission in the world to be built in this style. The style should be understood as a tribute to modernity and symbolic of the power and greatness of France that the country achieved during the 3rd Republic.

After the commission in 1901, Chedanne began with the conception of the embassy building following the triangular shape of the property near Schwarzenbergplatz, which was chosen as the location for the future embassy. For the construction he sought support from the best artists of his time.

Currently, the fire protection and escape route aspects of the French Embassy are to be brought up to the state of the art. We were commissioned with the creation of the fire protection concept, which provides information on which safety-relevant conversion measures are compatible with the historic stock and represent the greatest possible benefit with regard to a building that functions fire protection and evacuation technology.
