For almost 5 years now, the Schule at Kinkplatz has been empty and deteriorating noticeably. Unfortunately, to date, all attempts to save the building and find a corresponding use have not brought the desired success. On 26.1.2022, a panel discussion took place in the Architekturzentrum Wien in cooperation with IG-Architektur, the Central Association of Architects and the ÖGVA to look for solutions.

Among the panel guests were the architects Wolf D. Prix and Hemma Fasch, the Swiss art historian Nott Caviezel and the new city planning director Bernhard Jarolim. With the sad reality of an almost ruin in mind, all steakholders without exception are now of the opinion that the building is a work of art that must be preserved. To this end, an expert opinion on the significance of historical monuments has also been concluded, which is currently being evaluated.

In 2016, KPPK Ziviltechniker GmbH was commissioned to define the necessary measures for the #Sanierung, upgrading and improvement of the building and to evaluate them in terms of costs as part of a comprehensive expert opinion. We used previous expert reports and investigations by DI Ewald Pachler and Werkraum Ingenieure ZT GmbH as a basis. The report now available is thus the fifth official expert opinion to deal with the topic.

Thanks to the architect Silja Tillner, a research project was initiated that deals with the basic conservation possibilities for the building and generates a lively exchange with international colleagues. We hope that finally nails with heads are made here and this incomparable building finds its appropriate place in Vienna again good luck!
