Technical expertise for the Albertina Vienna

The Albertina Vienna is one of the most important art museums in Europe. Our team regularly accompanies spatial changes and technical adaptations in order to optimally support current exhibitions and architectural developments.

Expansion of the exhibition space

As part of the structural changes, the top floor was extended and the 3rd floor was redesigned. These measures created 2,600 m² of new exhibition space and optimized access routes. In addition, existing rooms were modernized and adapted to new exhibition concepts.

Technical challenges & art installations

One particular highlight was the installation of the replica polyester sculpture of Dürer’s hare on the Soravia Wing. Our task was to calculate the static load-bearing capacity and wind loads and thus ensure the secure attachment of the object.

Another remarkable installation was the art action “Imagine”, also on the Soravia Wing of the Albertina – a revolver behind bars as a powerful statement against violence. Here too, static and safety tests played a central role.

Innovative interior design for contemporary art

The large pillared hall of the Albertina was transformed into a three-dimensional art landscape by the renowned artist Katharina Grosse. Our technical expertise was particularly in demand for the installation and anchoring of a 500 kg fabric knot to the historic vaulted ceiling. In close cooperation with the Albertina team and the artists, we developed and implemented a precisely fitting installation detail.

Art meets technology

From static calculations and structural planning to individual installation strategies – our technical expertise makes it possible to stage works of art safely and impressively. The combination of architecture, engineering and art is evident in every exhibition we supervise.
