Hotel Gilbert, Vienna

Modern, green atrium with open seating areas, hanging plants, stylish furniture and a central light dome.

The age of the building structures to be renovated in Vienna is getting younger and younger.

While in the last 10-15 years we have mainly dealt with apartment buildings from the turn of the century and have been able to successfully renovate them due to their sometimes good substance or solid construction, more and more buildings from the 1930-1960s are now benefiting from substantial renovation. After the war years and due to technical developments in these years, less solid and material-saving work was carried out. As a result, these buildings now require significantly more work to bring to them up to modern building standards.

In the now completely renovated Hotel Gilber, we were able to take care of the structural implementation of these tasks. The diversity of the building structures was an exciting task, especially for the earthquake load case in relation to the sometimes very thin ceilings. In particular, the remaining concrete structure also showed a need for refurbishment due to its age. The new, additionally greened façade with a load of around 50 kg/m² and a large projection is also not easy to bear for these old building structures.

As the impressive result shows, we have succeeded in implementing the architectural approach of the Eidenböck architects’ office and handing over a completely renovated building to the clients.

We congratulate BWM Architekten on this magnificent refurbishment, which has turned the well-known Hotel ViennArt into a “truly jour hotel”.
