HOCHSITZ

The Emirates Team New Zealand catamaran skillfully maneuvers through the water during the America’s Cup, cheered on by crowds lining the harbor promenade.

While the term “Hochsitz” used to be associated exclusively with hunting, today it stands for a sophisticated, mobile building concept that now plays a key role at major events worldwide. This pioneering design concept combines flexibility, sustainability and aesthetics and has proven its worth at international events such as the Alpine World Ski Championships in Schladming 2013, the Winter Olympics in Sochi 2014 and Pyeongchang 2018, as well as the Summer Olympics in Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 and also 35th Americas Cup in Bermuda 2017. Preparations for the Winter Olympics in Cortina d’Ampezzo are currently in full swing.

High-quality materials and a well-thought-out design

The high seat is characterized by a harmonious material combination of stainless steel, glass and cross-laminated timber, which gives it a modern and elegant appearance. But its not just the visible elements that are impressive – in the invisible area, solid steel structures developed on the basis of a sophisticated static concept ensure stability and durability. To ensure multiple assembly and dismantling, the rear walls, floor and ceiling panels are fixed with steel brackets, special screws, and heavy-duty connections. The rear walls are also connected with steel plates to meet the structural requirements. In multi-storey is added. This modular construction method enables maximum flexibility and reusability.

Sustainability and mobility in perfection

The high seat is a genuine innovation in the field of temporary construction. In close cooperation with leading partners such as Loidl GmbH, SIHGA GmbH and KLH Massivholz GmbH, a unique building concept was created that can be reused up to 30 times. This not only significantly reduces material consumption, but also the environmental impact. At the same time, the raised hide can withstand all weathers and offers comfort and safety at the highest level. The decisive factor for the dimensioning and size of the components was the requirement that all components weigh less than 1. 000kg and fit into a standard sea container.

Global use with quick adaption

After use at an event, the high seat can be dismantled, transported and reassembled at another location within a few days. This mobility makes it an indispensable element for global events and helps to make logistics in the event industry more sustainable.

A look into the future

The Hochsitz is an incredible example that sustainable reusable architecture in the event sector can be aesthetic, functional and feasible all at the same time. This project sets a new standard for temporary buildings that combines environmental awareness and technological innovation – a structure that not only creates spaces but also tells stories. As an end use, the components are not thermally recycled but reprocessed for a single and multi-family homes and adapted for the respective building authority requirements.

The Hochsitz – a masterpiece of modern architecture and sustainability.
