Headquarters of the State Police Directorate, Upper Austria

Modern, white, multi-story office building surrounded by green trees.

The State Police Directorate of the Upper Austrian State Police Directorate is a modern building complex designed for the federal coordination and management of police security operations. TThe new construction, planned by the renowned architectural firm Franz und Sue ZT GmbH, was executed as a monolithic reinforced concrete structure with a facade insulated by an external thermal insulation composite system (ETICS).

From the preliminary design phase through to completion, we were responsible for providing the building physics services. By means of a digital model, all changes in the planning process – from the design of the required thermal insulation to the preparation of the energy performance certificate and the acoustic design – could be continuously coordinated.

Particular attention was paid to the indoor environmental quality of the various usage zones. By incorporating additional acoustic elements on walls and ceilings, the acoustic comfort in both secondary and primary occupied areas – particularly in recreation zones and the operations room – was effectively optimized.

In the detailed design phase, special emphasis was placed on the avoidance of geometric and structural thermal bridges, as the ground floor below the first upper floor was partially used as a covered car park and the upper levels featured a recessed, greened courtyard. The connecting bridge integrated into this floor provides a thermal buffer between the existing and the new building and was considered thermally separated from both building envelopes.

Compliance with summer thermal protection requirements was achieved through the thermal mass of the construction and the use of high-quality windows with external shading devices.
