Krankenhaus Nord, now known as “Klinik Floridsdorf”, is one of the most important and modern hospital projects in Europe. The project was planned on the basis of a two-stage international competition in 2008, which was won by Atelier Albert Wimmer ZT GmbH. After several years of construction, full operations commenced in the second half of 2019. With 800 beds, the clinic in Vienna’s 21st district offers medical care at the highest level and represents an important milestone in Vienna’s healthcare system.
Our Assignment
From the beginning of 2012, we were able to support the structural execution planning and made a significant contribution to the timely completion of components 11, 33, 32, 34, 41 and 45.
In 2014, our team was commissioned with the “inspection engineer from shell construction” part of the service and was able to accompany the completion together with the architect and the building authorities.
Responsibilities and tasks of the inspection engineer
The role of the inspection engineer is essential for compliance with building regulations, in particular the OIB guidelines and the Vienna Building Code. Together with the site manager, the test engineer is responsible for
- Monitoring the mechanical stability in accordance with OIB Guideline 1.
- Confirmation that the building has been erected in accordance with the submission plan and any subsequent plans.
- Compliance with the Vienna Building Code in accordance with § 125, § 127 and § 128.
With the notification of completion, we confirm compliance with these regulations and that the building has been constructed in accordance with these regulations.
Shell inspection and construction progress
The inspection of the building shell is an essential part of our services. The building shell includes all load-bearing elements that are relevant for mechanical stability in accordance with OIB Guideline 1. The following points must be fulfilled for successful acceptance:
- Execution of all load-bearing components of the structure.
- Complete outline of the building structure including roof truss with rafters and ridge purlins, top storey ceiling, cornices and parapets.
