In collaboration with Treberspurg & Partner Architects, an innovative theater space is taking shape at Karl-Farkas-Gasse 16, preserving the historical fabric of a listed building while providing maximum flexibility for experimental theater.
The former bank branch, with its large main hall, adjacent office wings, and historic masonry structure, is being carefully adapted for its new use. Structural reinforcements ensure the building’s load-bearing capacity, while modern steel constructions are being integrated to support stage and building services technology. Special measures are also being taken to guarantee earthquake resistance and long-term structural stability.
The building services are undergoing comprehensive modernization: while listed architectural elements are being preserved, ventilation, heating, and electrical systems are being upgraded to state-of-the-art standards. A photovoltaic system is planned for the roof, and new ventilation systems will ensure optimal climate conditions. At the same time, great care is being taken to retain the building’s historical charm.
Planning is in full swing to prepare this unique cultural venue for the future — an exciting symbiosis of heritage conservation, contemporary architecture, and technical innovation!
