On 30.09.2019, the court building in Salzburg was awarded the State Prize “Architecture and Sustainability” for its renovation and expansion. Planned by the architectural office Franz und Sue ZT GmbH and implemented by the client BIG Bundesimmobiliengesellschaft m.b.H., we were commissioned with the implementation of the structural engineering and building physics service components.

The complexity of the construction project could not be guessed in the beginning and repeatedly presented the entire team with static challenges. The decoupling of the reinforced concrete coffered ceiling of the floor structure above, developed by the architect Wielemans, was only one of the technical highlights that could be implemented through elaborate upgrading measures.

Forthe first time, it was possible for a federal building under monument protection to be rated klimaaktiv Gold for the renovation. For the new building, the building rating klimaaktiv Silver was achieved.

The team of “Franz&Sue” has literally reinvented the wheel here and – under the motto “Transparent and open, as we imagine the jurisdiction in a democracy” has managed to realize a building that will help the citizen.
