20 Years – 20 Projects: Technical Expertise for the Albertina Vienna

The Albertina Vienna is one of Europe’s most important art museums. Our team regularly oversees spatial changes and technical upgrades to provide optimal support for current exhibitions and architectural developments—here is a brief overview:

Expansion of Exhibition Space

As part of structural renovations, the attic was converted and the third floor was redesigned. These measures created 2,600 m² of new exhibition space and optimized visitor circulation. Additionally, existing spaces were modernized and adapted to new exhibition concepts.

Technical Challenges & Art Installations

A particular highlight was the installation of the replica polyester sculpture of the “Dürer Hare” on the Soravia Wing. Our task was to calculate the structural load-bearing capacity and wind loads to ensure the safe mounting of the object.

Another notable installation was the art project “Imagine,” also on the Soravia Wing of the Albertina—a revolver behind bars as a powerful statement against violence. Here, too, structural and safety tests played a central role.

Innovative Space Design for Contemporary Art

The Albertina’s grand pillar hall was transformed into a three-dimensional art landscape by renowned artist Katharina Grosse. Our technical expertise was particularly called upon for the installation and anchoring of a 500-kg fabric knot to the historic vaulted ceiling. Working closely with the Albertina team and the artist, we developed and implemented a custom-fit installation solution.

Art Meets Technology

From structural calculations and structural engineering to customized installation strategies—our technical expertise enables us to showcase artistic works safely and impressively. The fusion of architecture, engineering, and art is evident in every exhibition we manage.

We look forward with great anticipation to the exhibition: Collecting for the Future—250 Years of the Albertina, starting June 19, 2026
