Leopoldau XYZ – keep it simple, make it work
In keeping with the motto “keep it simple,” a modern, flexible, and sophisticated residential building for young and young-at-heart residents was constructed in Vienna’s Leopoldau district. The aim was to create maximum living quality with limited resources using a clear concept – a basic principle that was consistently implemented in close cooperation with the City of Vienna and feld72 Architekten ZT GmbH.
Together, all relevant OIB guidelines were reviewed in terms of their costs and feasibility. This resulted in interdisciplinary solutions that efficiently combine building services, structural and building physics requirements. The result is a structural concept that focuses on simplicity, cost-effectiveness, and adaptability.
The combination of hollow walls, precast slabs, and other prefabricated or semi-prefabricated components enabled a shorter construction period—and, as a result, a noticeable reduction in costs. The project exemplifies how innovative engineering can ensure architectural quality even under economic constraints.
How can simplicity be used as a guiding principle to make complex construction projects sustainable and future-proof?
