On September 24, 2025, the 20th Lower Austria Timber Construction Award was presented at FORUM 21 bei Blaha in Korneuburg. The office building of Windkraft Simonsfeld AG in Ernstbrunn received the award in the category of conversion, extension, and renovation.
The two-story new building adds 2,067 m² of (office) floor space to the existing building, doubling the amount of space available. The timber frame construction with cross-laminated timber ceilings and 590 m³ of wood creates maximum flexibility for future operational requirements. At the heart of the building is the centrally located atrium, which actively promotes social interaction as a communication and meeting zone.
Two rammed earth cores with thermal activation, 11 deep boreholes, and a full-surface photovoltaic system in the form of a roof covering provide an innovative energy concept that makes the building virtually energy self-sufficient.
The project was awarded the Klimaaktiv Gold certification (1000/1000 points) in 2024 and also received the Fiabci Prix d’Excellence Austria award in 2025.
We are proud to have provided significant technical support with our expertise in structural engineering, building physics, building services, and fire protection planning—a strong sign for the future of sustainable construction with wood.
